Ahmedabad, 7 February 2020

The Center for Sustainability at Anant National University - India’s first design university - has partnered with Habitat for Humanity India - the leading housing non-profit - to work towards fulfilling its vision of building a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The MOU between the two organisations was signed today in Ahmedabad by Mr. Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India and Dr. Anunaya Chaubey, Provost, Anant University.

“At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that a home plays a foundational role in building a better future for a family. Since last 36 years, we have served more than 33 million people by providing them with affordable housing solutions, improved sanitation units and providing humanitarian aid in the aftermath of natural disasters. Our work is aligned with the Government of India’s Housing for All by 2022 mission. The partnership with Anant National University will contribute significantly towards this mission,” said Rajan Samuel, Managing Director, Habitat for Humanity India.

Anant National University is a thought leader in the affordable housing space and the Center for Sustainability will work with Habitat India to develop solutions across design, construction and delivery. Anant University and Habitat India will work together to increase awareness on the massive challenges India faces due to lack of adequate shelter and ways on how to tackle them.

Anant University will join the Indian Housing Coalition, the country’s leading advocacy body for affordable housing as a knowledge and research partner. The India Housing Coalition was established by Habitat for Humanity at the 7th edition of Asia Pacific Housing Forum. The biennial forum organised by Habitat for Humanity in July 2019 is sector conference that gathers stakeholders engaged in seeking solutions to housing issues and promotes affordable housing as a driver of economic growth under one roof. The focus of the India Housing Coalition is to facilitate, foster and forge joint implementation of shelter interventions to reduce housing deficit of communities belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) of the society.
