In a significant step towards addressing housing and climate challenges, 15 climate-resilient homes were handed over to marginalised families from the Katkari tribe in Wada village, Maharashtra. These homes are designed with sustainability at their core featuring natural ventilation, solar rooftops, and rainwater harvesting systems to ensure long-term resilience in the face of climate change.

This project marks the fulfilment of a commitment made during Habitat India’s 4th Charity Golf Tournament, held in Mumbai on 4th February 2023, where Habitat pledged to build climate-resilient homes. The handover of these homes symbolises the realisation of that pledge and demonstrates Habitat’s ongoing dedication to creating sustainable, safe housing for vulnerable communities. The success of this project was made possible through the generous contributions of key donors, including Mr. Ashish Kacholia of Lucky Investment Managers, Mr. D. C. Patel, Managing Director of Laxmi Board and Paper Mills Pvt. Ltd., and Mr. Gopal Ramakrishnan, Managing Director of Goodrich Maritime Pvt. Ltd. Their support has helped to not only provide homes but also improve the quality of life for families who have long faced the dual challenges of poverty and climate vulnerability.

Habitat for Humanity India has been organising Charity Golf Tournaments to support its housing, sanitation, and disaster response initiatives. Through five such tournaments, over 270 families have been impacted with this project in Wada serving as a testament to the transformative power of community-driven housing solutions.

The event was attended by Mr. Jonathan Reckford, Chief Executive Officer, Habitat for Humanity International, Ms. Elizabeth Satow, Area Vice President, Asia Pacific, Habitat for Humanity International, Mr. Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director, Habitat for Humanity India, Mr. Sanjeev Hada, Associate Director – Programmes Operations, Asia Pacific Area Office, Mr. Rajiv Raman, Senior Director - Programmes, Habitat India, community members, district level Government officials and Panchayat leaders.
