15 Warli families in Palghar move into their new homes built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity India and Samsung C&T
Mumbai, 25th March 2026: Habitat for Humanity India, a leading housing non-profit organisation marked the completion of a housing and school sanitation initiative implemented in partnership with Samsung C&T in the villages of Saware, Kanchad and Hamrapur located in Palghar district, Maharashtra.
Through this initiative, 15 families from the Warli tribal community in Saware village built and moved into safe and decent homes, transforming their living conditions. In addition, sanitation facilities were constructed in three schools in Saware, Kanchad and Hamrapur villages, improving access to hygiene and sanitation facilities for students and supporting a safer and more supportive learning environment in these educational institutes.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director of Habitat for Humanity India said, “This partnership marks an important step in advancing Habitat for Humanity’s vision of building a world where everyone has a decent place to live. By working with families to build these homes, we are helping them create a strong foundation for a better future. The sanitation facilities in schools play an important role in upgrading the infrastructure and support a healthier learning environment for students. We are grateful to Samsung C&T for partnering with us to support the local community in Palghar through shelter and sanitation.”
Expressing their happiness, homeowner Gauri shared, “Our old house was not safe and we faced many difficulties. With this new home, we feel secure and hopeful about the future. Building this home has brought comfort, stability and dignity to our family.”
“We have seen significant improvement in daily attendance after building the new sanitation unit. Students and parents are extremely happy with this change. Many parents have personally visited us to express their satisfaction that their children now have access to clean and safe washroom facilities within the school premises. The new facility has especially helped girls attend school more regularly and with greater confidence”, said
Mr. Vijay Gavali, Principal, Zilla Parishad Upper Primary and Secondary School, Saware village, Palghar, Maharashtra.
As part of this project, 98 employees from Samsung C&T have volunteered alongside local community members, contributing their time and effort to the construction of the homes and engaging with schools and families in the villages.
The project has supported Warli tribal families who previously lived in poor and vulnerable housing conditions to build durable homes and improve their overall living environment. New sanitation facilities in schools are also helping create safer and more inclusive spaces for students.
This collaboration demonstrates how partnerships between nonprofit and the private sector can expand access to safe housing, sanitation and strengthen community resilience.
