Mumbai, June 2025: Habitat for Humanity India, a leading housing non-profit organisation has launched a solar energy initiative in collaboration with Rockwell Automation to install off-grid solar systems in 14 rural schools across Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Haryana. The initiative is part of Habitat India’s broader commitment to climate action and sustainable infrastructure development for underserved communities.

Through this intervention, 14 schools across the states of Haryana (Rewari and Dharuhera districts), Maharashtra (Khed block in Pune district) and Tamil Nadu (Gummidipoondi block in Tiruvallur district) will benefit from uninterrupted access to electricity — enabling these educational institutions to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Access to clean, reliable energy is critical in building resilient communities,” said Mr. Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director, Habitat for Humanity India. “This initiative with Rockwell Automation is a powerful step towards sustainable development. It also aligns with the Government of India’s vision of expanding renewable energy access across rural regions. By lighting up these educational institutions, we are advancing our mission to help communities build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter and climate-responsive infrastructure.”

Mr. Dilip Sawhney, Managing Director, Rockwell Automation India said: “The impact of this initiative extends beyond lighting classrooms. Renewable and reliable sources of power enable the effective use of lighting, fans and digital equipment, transforming schools into more functional spaces for students, teachers and the wider community. This transformation enhances educational opportunities and accelerates the nation's progress towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’. We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity India in driving clean energy access where it’s needed most.”

Each school is equipped with a customised 5KW off-grid solar system, including high-efficiency solar panels, inverters and battery storage. The systems are tailored to meet the specific energy needs identified through baseline assessments. School staff will receive training on routine maintenance to ensure long-term usage and sustainability.

This initiative reinforces Habitat for Humanity India’s commitment to integrating clean energy solutions into its community development programmes — supporting climate-resilient infrastructure and promoting equitable access to essential services across India’s rural heartlands.
